New- Canadian Payment changes in Square
There has been a change in our Square Payment system for our Canadian payments. As of March 18, 2026, Square will be charging an additional 1.5% international transaction fee. This fee will apply in addition to your processing fees when your internationally issued credit or debit card is accepted at a location(s) in the US. Canadian payments might consider sending a check like we have in the past. I will allow extra time for delivery since it takes up to 11 days for Canadian mail to reach me.
I am still investigating the option of using the Wise.com app (see below). I am able to send a payment link to you using the system. This is something new but so far I have been successful with several transactions including Uganda.
If you want to pay by credit card or ACH, please let Bill Erickson know (bill@wallawallarotary.org). He will send an invoice to pay online via a payment link.
This change does not affect transactions with US accounts, but credit card transactions will still have a 3.3% fee added.
ACH Transfer: We also have the option through square to arrange for an ACH transfer from your checking account to our account. There is no service charge for this type of transaction. One drawback is we have had limited success with Canadian banks. If you want to pay using an ACH transfer, let Bill Erickson know.

I have had a couple of parents in Europe use the Wise website to transfer money to me in the US. The transfers are quite easy, and the fees are a lot lower than using square via credit card. It appears (at least in the US) that you can draw the funds from your bank account.
If you want to make a payment using Wise let me know and I can send you the information and routing numbers to make it happen or I can send you a link to pay. Fees will be applied but in many cases it has been less than Square.
